This is one of my son's favourite mountain restaurants in the Alps. Under the Verdons bubble car, around two-thirds of a kilometre above the village, lies one of the largest mountain chalet restaurants in France. A charming building with tables upstairs and downstairs and a terrace that seems to be able to seat a vast number of people. Yvette Saxe overseas a staff dressed splendidly in Savoyard mountain uniform and serves classical French cooking and all Savoyard dishes. Buy a ticket for the outstanding dessert table, where up to 25 cakes and puddings are produced daily; I particularly like the nut cake, covered in walnuts. In the evening if you reserve, you can be collected by snow-cat in the village and enjoy lamb smoked over the open fire.
