Marc Meneau's restaurant is to be found below the hill top village of Vezelay with its basilica. The restaurant is large with glass walls that open up to the attractive garden, where you can take your pre-meal aperitif. On my last visit I had a room in the hotel above the restaurant with a garden view. A visit here is never wasted and I consider Meneau a very fine chef, although the red guide has taken away one of his stars, while Gault Millau gives him their top rating of 19. There are some very tempting dishes on offer, for example langoustines en chaud froid, poached duck foie gras and, to finish, banane tigree with passion fruit. This is an excellent stopping-off place when motoring through France.
