The little town of Vonnas (2,400 inhabitants) lies a short hour north of Lyon and is completely dominated, in the best way, by the Blanc family. In addition to the famous three-starred restaurant with rooms, there is a separate small hotel and a pleasant bistro and also a boutique. Georges Blanc is one of France's greatest restaurants, attractively located on the small river Veyle and with a garden and swimming pool. Originally called La Mere Blanc when mother Blanc was in charge, Georges Blanc has now been a three star restaurant for over twenty years (which is difficult to believe when you meet Georges himself). Vonnas is right in the heart of the Bresse region which produces some of the finest produce in France such as poulet de Bresse and the cheese bleu de Bresse. Not surprisingly the menu has several dishes relating to the area.
