LE MOISSONIER |
Krefelder Strasse, 25; tel.: 0221 72 9479; fax: 0221 732 5461
We may be in Germany but here is a very French bistro with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, turn of the century decor, with Tiffany lamps and art nouveau paintings on the walls. Chef Eric Menchon cooks dishes such as marinated duck fillets with sorrel leaves, noisette of lamb with coconut curry and he likes to combine exotic with rustic ingredients.

DIETER MULLER |
Schlosshotel Lerbach, Lerbacher Weg; tel.: 022 02 2040;
fax: 022 02 20 4940
A few years ago Dieter Muller arrived to take charge of the stoves. As a result this is one of the finest restaurants in Germany. The dining area is spacious and comfortable with large windows overlooking the castle grounds. When I settled down and examined the menu I chose saltimbocca de lapereau et salade de fins haricots and crepinette de pigeon au sang avec tranches de boudin, asperges vertes et sauces aux truffes.

BORSEN-RESTAURANT MAITRE |
Unter Sachsenhausen, 10; tel.: 0221 13 3021; fax: 0221 13 3040
Stockbrokers and bankers are well served by this well-established restaurant in the heart of the stock exchange building right in central Cologne, with a restrained art deco interior. The cooking by chef Erhard Schafer is more French than German. His classic dishes include turbot in a court bouillon with caviar, mousseline and sea-food ravioli or wild pigeon stuffed with foie gras and morels.
