Martin Goschel, 29, having trained and cooked in other first class restaurants is now in charge. On the menu: quails' egg soup with lemongrass, John Dory fish with Chinese noodles and coconut chilli sauce and for dessert vanilla creme brulee with almond biscuits. There is an extensive wine list and a good bar in this city centre restaurant which is open for dinner only.

This elegant and luxurious castle hotel can be reached by car from Frankfurt in less than half an hour. It is surrounded by an attractive park and the restaurant serves first class food.

Frankfurter Hof is the number one hotel in Frankfurt and has always been a meeting place for bankers and business people. Restaurant Francais, with its plush interior with large mirrors and well-spaced tables, is just about the best place to eat in Frankfurt. New young chef Patrick Bittner was formerly chef du partie at three-star restaurant Dieter Muller and serves a lighter, more modern French cuisine than before.

Erno's bistro which is not really a bistro at all is one of the best and very much «in». The decor is rustic but the atmosphere is good and so is the service. The cooking is Alsatian and southern French with some quite interesting dishes such as quail with chanterelle mushrooms and foie gras. An unusual dish is swordfish on a fricassee of squid and peppers.
