It is considered to be among the top ten Athenean restaurants, also ollering Thai and other Asian dishes. On the menu are spring rolls, classic crispy duck and marinated quails.

MEZZO MEZZO

58, Syngrou Avenue; tel.: 01 924 444; fax: 01 924 2716 In a large and lofty restaurant with an open kitchen and many attractive paintings, chef Jean-Yves Caratoni prepares Italian and French dishes and also some eastern specialities. This is a very fashionable and popular establishment, open only for dinner. Among dishes that can be recommended is risotto with crayfish, rack of veal with caramelised onions or its Asian counterpart, imperial veal with dry ñherry, and foie gras with pine kernels. Sommeher Nikos is in charge of an impressive underground wine cellar with a tasting lounge in front of it. Surprise: in summer the whole restaurant moves to a superb seaside location. BOSCHETTO

Alsos Evangelismou; tel.: 01 721 0893; fax: 1 722 3598 At Boschetto you can eat under the trees of the grove of Evangelismou in summertime. It is a stylish restaurant specialising in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, the best of its kind in Greece. Chef Dimitis Karayianis will suggest some tempting dishes, among them cannelloni with sea gnocchi and gorgonzola sauce, or duck — with figs and couscous. Another interesting dish is shrimps rolled in a lace cover of «kadaifi». The wine list includes some quite old Greek red wines — rather unusual.
