Fish and shellfish is the order of the day here. Not surprisingly since this restaurant is set by the water in a converted warehouse next to the fishing harbour where you have a fine view of passing ships as you eat. Chef/proprietor Leif Mannerstrom is an old friend of mine who has a great reputation as the leading chef in Gothenburg and western Sweden. One of his specialities is to serve the Swedish golden caviar — lojrom — usually on toast. These fish eggs are only found in Swedish and Finnish waters and are a great delicacy. In English the name is bleak roe and in French, oeufs d'ablettes. If you are a visitor to Sweden this is a must as a starter. In summertime meals are served on the terrace where there is also a shellfish bar.

FISKEKROGEN |
Lilla Torget, 1; tel.: 031 10 10 05, fax: 031 10 1006
Not surprisingly the name of this restaurant in English is the Fish Restaurant, and what better place for such a restaurant to be than in Gothenburg, the main fishing port of Sweden. Owner Lars Ahlstrom runs a restaurant with a very large choice of seafood. I would resommend that you start with a plateau of shellfish or a carpaccio of tuna and as a main course have grilled turbot with a crispy skin. There are also very good desserts The wine list is French dominated, especially with some good Burgundies.
