BRUDERHOLZ |
Bruderholzallee, 42; tel.: 061 361 8222; fax: 061 361 8203
There are so many good restaurants all over Switzerland that sometimes the choice can be difficult, but less so in Basel where I warmly recommend Bruderholz. Situated in a 1920's villa on a residential hillside overlooking the town the restaurant has three dining rooms but you can also eat in the garden in summertime which I did on my last visit. The late, great Hans Stucki was the chef/patron lor some 38 years and established high standards of cooking and service. His successors are Pierre Buess (owner) and Jean-Claude Wicky (head chef) and they keep up the tradition and present some very good dishes such as fricassee ol langoustines with curry and a duck nantais with vinegar and honey; and why not end with a souffle with a fruit sauce. To accompany this I recommend some of the excellent Swiss white wines featured on the list. Please note that there is a lunch menu for only 68 Swiss Francs.
