Gourmet food in the mountains? Why not? In the always fashionable ski resort of Verbier you will find one of the best restaurants in Switzerland in the hands of bearded chef/patron Roland Pierroz. He is also the vicepresident ot Les Grandes Tables de Suisse. I happen to be an active skier and have skied many times in Verbier, often ending the day with a dinner at this restaurant. I have also stayed in the Hotel Rosalp which houses the restaurant and is in the very centre of the village. There is a more informal restaurant in the same building called La Pinte. It is remarkable how Pierroz has overcome transport problems to provide quality food at such a high altitude. On the menu is langoustine with a sauce of yellow tomatoes and courgette flowers and as a main course lamb from Sisteron.
